The majority of people I've spoken to seem to have
started with Classical deities, I think it's because
most people know more about them than any other even
if it is only through Xena/Hercules and bears very
little resemblance to ACTUAL Classical mythology!

I floated around researching various of the deities,
generally in their Greek forms before realising that
there was probably a reason I hadn't settled. I still
talk to them occasionally, just because my path moved
on from there I don't think it's right for me to
forget them entirely.

>From there a random conversation with a friend about
something in Arthurian legend prompted me to start
looking into Celtic myths (seeing as how I'm a Brit
you'd think I'd have gotten there earlier
but...*shrugs*). The first deity who drew my
attention there was Brigid (or whichever one of the
half dozen alternate spellings you feel like using),
fire, poetry, inspiration...and the amusement value of
the Catholic church cannonising her! The more I read
the more I developed a sense of rightness, there was
that magic "click" and I began to feel really at home.

Shortly afterwards while I continued devouring every
source I could get my hands on another friend came to
me for someone to talk to, what she told me made my
blood boil and since I had no chance of doing anything
about her problem by mundane means I went looking for
something a little more mystical...that was my first
real experience with a very non-fluffy side to
paganism. Now up until now I had been on a couple of
boards where talk of anything less than fluffy was
frowned on (when someone gets called negative and is
given a warning for asking for a little energy boost
to put into a vengeance against someone who assaulted
her things are a little too fluffy!), at this point I
grew up a little and started to ask myself just what
was so wrong about taking an active part in defending
yourself and as everyone knows the best defense is a
good offence...I developed a deep connection with the
Morrigan and I've learned a lot about myself and the
world in the process, including the fact that getting
slapped by a goddess for relying on her strength when
your own is more than enough hurts!

Unlike Incanto I've not had too many problems with the
goth set and connections with the Morrigan, possibly
because most of the people I hang out with went
through what is affectionately reffered to as the
teeny-goth-wiccan stage and got over it to practise
some form of paganism seriously. I have overheard
some gems of conversation from thirteen year-olds in
Marylin Manson hoodies whilst stood in certain shops
but that's possibly a topic for a different thread.

More recently I've started learning alot more about
the Norse pantheon simply due to the fact that my
fiance is a Norse pagan, it works out quite well, we
do our own workings in our own ways and respect any
requests for a little privacy. Having said that
though I don't tend to use big rituals unless there's
something big enough to warrant it and (in his own
words) he's just a thug.

Ugh, it's 3 am again isn't it and I've probably
rambled on far too long.
G'night people,

Ahrien
